The Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite

On July 7, 2007, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree granting permission to all priests of the Catholic Church (Roman Rite) to celebrate what was called the "Tridentine Mass" or the Mass of Pope Pius V, reissued by Pope John XXIII in 1962, as desired by the faithful.   In his Moto Proprio, Summorum Pontificum the Pope writes that "must be given due honor for its venerable and ancient usage."  Therefore with thanksgiving to God and to His Holiness we are blessed to offer the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite as authorized by the Church.

Bishop Michael Mulvey has designated St. John the Baptist Parish as the home parish for those who choose to attend the Mass in the Extraordinary Form.  Individuals and families who choose to attend weekly are highly encouraged to become parishioners of St. John's.   Their commitment to the parish will allow for this Mass to grow and for our parish to offer singers and musicians to accompany the Mass with Gregorian Chant and appropriate music.
