Frassati Parish Formation Center

Fall of 2016

In January of 2016, the Parish Building Committee approved the beginning of our parish campus development by identifing the first phase of our project.    Phase I which was set in motion in the Spring of 2016 is the Parish Activity Center.

The new building is to be named the FRASSATI PARISH FORMATION CENTER, named after the 20th century Italian layman beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1990, Bl. Pier Gorgio Frassati.

The new center program includes:
1.  Administration Offices
2.  Parish Hall/Youth Center w/ kitchen
3.  Classrooms for Children (for Youth Formation)
4.  Meeting Confrence Rooms for Adult Organizations
5.  Choir Rehersal Room
6.  Small bookstore & cafe/coffee shop

What is the cost of the new building?

The cost for the new building at this point is projected to be about $4.4 million dollars by completion.

How big is the new building?

The new building will be roughly 17,400 square feet. Significantly larger than the Church building we are currently using.

How did the parish come up with the size and need for the building?

The Parish Building Committee identified proposed building necessary for our future development. In addition to that, a feasibility study was conducted to identify the parish need based on growth and projected need for the next 10 years.

How will the building be paid for?

The parish will apply for a loan from the Diocese of Corpus Christi and over the course of the next 6-8 years pay off the debt of that loan.

What about the new church?

The parish is still fundraising and saving for the new church, which hopefully within a few years we will begin a capital campaign so that soon we can also proceed toward making the dream of a new church a reality.

When will the new building be built?

We are proposing that by late Spring or Summer of 2017 the new building will be complete.

What will become of the current portable building in use?

The portable buildings used as a parish activity center will be removed from the campus and no longer placed in our use. The parish will attempt to find a buyer or interested party if not then discard the buildings.

What about parking?

One of the amenities of the new building will be to accommodate more parking desperately needed on our campus. Currently we have 131 parking spots, the new building should add over 200 more parking spaces.

What will the new building be used for?

In addition to housing our parish offices, the new building will be used by our parish's catechetical and ministerial formation programs for both youth and adults. It will also serve to host parish fellowship and community functions as well as places for all our organizations to meet. We expect to also add a choir room and even a gift store and hopefully a cafe to further encourage community building

What about our church festivals?

The current festival grounds will be relocated deeper in the property, but allowing for more parking for future festivals, it ought to make for a nice festival experience.

What else should we expect once the building is built?

The parish councils of the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Daughters of the Americas will be fundraising to build a commercial playground, a parish pavilion and hopefully help to further develop our property moving toward the inevitability of a new church.
